Zambia bills itself as the land of the legendary African walking safari, the mighty Victoria Falls, the wild Zambezi River, breath-taking lakes, abundant wildlife, and raw, pulsating wilderness, all in one friendly country, and we at Pembury Tours think they are absolutely spot on!
Zambia is a landlocked country in the tropics of the northern edge of the region referred to as “southern Africa”. It is a vast and largely unspoilt land and has some breath-taking scenery – including 5 lakes and 17 waterfalls, in addition to the Victoria Falls. It is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and is the world’s largest waterfall.
Zambia is, however, principally a safari destination. In addition to having 19 National Parks, with one of the largest in the world (Kafue National Park), Zambia has 34 Game Management Areas and over 23 million hectares devoted to the conservation of a spectacular variety of wild animals and bird species. It has one of the largest concentrations of game in Africa. The South Luangwa National Park, which boasts some of the best game rangers in Africa, pioneered the walking safari. The Lower Zambezi National Park sits on the Zambezi floodplain and offers superb water-based game viewing as well as game drives. The wildlife in Zambia is classic big game. Amongst the predators, lion and leopard do exceptionally well in Zamiba. Cheetahs are occasionally seen, African wild dog numbers are increasing and there are many smaller predators. Zambia’s giraffe and antelope are especially interesting for the number of endemic subspecies that have evolved. Zambia also has a great variety of both resident and migrant birds: over 750 species in total.
Recently, Zambia has also become known for its adventure activities, centred on the Victoria Falls.

I have been involved in the hotel and tourism industry since 1993 and with Pembury since 2001. Since qualifying as a hotel manager, I have been fortunate enough to have worked in many of the best hotels and lodges in different areas of South Africa. This has given me a great local knowledge of my country. I have a lifelong dedication to travelling in Africa and, after having lived in game reserves for more than 4 years, they are still a passion for our family getaways.
As a natural progression, I joined Pembury Tours as a consultant, after settling in Port Elizabeth. My responsibilities include tailor-making itineraries to suit the client’s requirements. From making the reservation, compiling the travel documents, including maps and directions, to ensuring a smooth and enjoyable holiday, I know that the perfect holiday is made up of many facets and the effective combining of these services ensures the clients their “great African vacation”.
I am currently running our Botswana office and I specialise in holidays to this area.
