Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya’s most popular parks. Mount Kilimanjaro forms a spectacular backdrop to one of Africa’s best destinations for viewing free-roaming large-tusked elephants.
“Amboseli” is the Maasai word for “salty dust” but it is in fact home to an extremely diverse number of habitats. From the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli, clear-water springs, and wetlands, to woodlands and savannahs – the park is ideal for exploring the diversity of Kenya’s landscape.
The abundance and variety of wildlife is spectacular. Amboseli is home to big game such as leopard, lion, giraffe, buffalo, cheetah and zebra. Other species calling it home include crocodile, mongoose, hyrax, kudu, porcupine and wild dogs. It is famed for its incredible number of elephants, which can be spotted in herds of up to one hundred. For birdwatchers, it is birdwatching paradise with over 400 species of birds having been recorded in the park.
There are a variety of safari camps both inside Amboseli and in neighbouring concessions.
Amboseli is the ideal opportunity to immerse yourself in Kenya’s wildlife conservation and makes for an exceptional wildlife experience. Its proximity to Nairobi means easy access too.
