WORLD RHINO DAY

[/fusion_title][fusion_text]

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

World Rhino Day is celebrated every year on September 22 – a day incredibly close to our hearts here at Pembury Tours. The rhino is one of our most beloved creatures here in Africa. It is a part of our iconic Big Five and an animal loved by many throughout the world.

Unfortunately, the rhino is under threat of extinction due to poaching.

Losing these gentle giants would break many hearts and deeply impact on what makes our wildlife so special.

Many organisations, game reserves, charities and individuals have been working around the clock for years to ensure the protection of our rhinos. However, this day is a culmination of all these efforts into one day, where the world stands together and recognizes everything that has been done, is being done and needs to be done to save these wonderful animals from extinction.

Here is everything you need to know about World Rhino Day.

What is World Rhino Day?

World Rhino Day is a global celebration of both African and Asian rhinos. It brings recognition to all five species – black, white, greater one-horned, Sumatran and Javan rhinos.

How did it begin?

World Rhino Day, we are very proud to announce, was initiated by our very own WWF-South Africa in 2010. In 2011, it became an international success thanks to two women, Lisa Jane and Rhishja. They discovered a shared passion for the conservation of our rhinos and a shared vision for the day to encompass the celebration of both African and Asian rhino species. Thanks to their efforts they grew the day from one that celebrates the rhino to one that also unites all NGOs, zoos, cause-related organisations, businesses and individuals throughout the world that are working towards rhino conservation.

Is there a theme?

The theme is the “Five Rhino Species Forever” which aims to celebrate all the species of rhino. The day is also used to highlight efforts to debunk the myths around, as well as eradicate the demand, for rhino horn.

How do I get involved?

The wonderful thing about this day is that there are no rights and wrongs – it is an open invitation to celebrate rhinos however you’d like. There are events, videos, speeches, fundraisers, artworks, photographs and even Spotify playlists. There are a wonderful variety of ways to get involved and the best way is to connect with World Rhino Day on Facebook and Twitter.
