The Eastern Cape straddles the meeting point of 5 distinct biomes (valley bushveld, savannah grassland, fynbos, riverine forest and acacia woodland), resulting in a breathtaking variety in animal and bird species. In addition, the carrying capacity of the vegetation in Eastern Cape game reserves is much higher than that of the Kruger area, so you will find a much higher concentration of animals.

Lalibela has three lodges, all offering décor that is infused with the essence of Africa, as well as warm and friendly service, exciting safari cuisine and unforgettable game viewing. Each day, you will enjoy two game drives in an open game viewing vehicle with an experienced game ranger: one in the early morning and another in the late afternoon, as this is when animals are at their most active.
After your morning game drive, you return to your lodge for brunch. You are transferred to Lalibela reception, where your driver will be waiting for you. You are transferred to Kariega Game Reserve, There is time to check in at your new lodge before setting off on your afternoon game drive.

Kariega Game Reserve is an 11,500-hectare Big Five game reserve set in pristine African wilderness and incorporating the picturesque Kariega and Bushman’s Rivers. Kariega’s lodges offer a unique combination of awesome game viewing with an expansive variety of fauna, flora and birdlife in a landscape that displays dramatic views and vistas. On safari drives you will explore many different habitats highlighting five different ecosystems – valley bushveld, savannah grasslands, fynbos, riverine forests and acacia woodland. The game reserve is home to lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. Other species abound too, such as hippo, hyena, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, eland, kudu, waterbuck and a variety of other antelope, as well as a myriad of bird species including the nesting crowned eagle, martial and fish eagles. Sometimes it is the hidden secrets of the bush which guests most treasure as memories of their safari holidays, the amazing intricacy of a spider’s web or the monumental work of a dung beetle. There is never a dull moment on game drives; you never know what African bush experience awaits around the next corner.
