Client Review

The guide at four seasons was very good.. just the safari experience.. the legendary mobile camp was in a private concession and totally customised which we really loved and will surely return to Africa for. Victoria Falls, we would like to stay on the Zambian side next time but everything else was fun in Zimbabwe. The Four Seasons was one of the best resorts I have stayed in, but we enjoyed the safaris from the legendary expedition camps more. Cape Town was good and we had a relaxing time in between doing some fun touring through the city and around it. We want to do a walk with the gorillas and the ngorongoro crater next year and I will call you then to make arrangements. Many Thanks Heidi for organising.

Arjun R

Tour Consultant's Overview

Arjun is a repeat client of Pembury Tours and was looking to take his wife on safari as he had previously travelled with his son. Arjun, a well -travelled client wanted to see the migration in the Serengeti and asked me to tailor make the rest of his trip.  We decided to combine the Serengeti experience with Victoria Falls and Cape Town. After corresponding over a few options, Arjun chose the tour that best suited them and they had a wonderful time in Africa once again.

It is here, at certain times of the year, that we may encounter the breathtaking spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration, where one and a quarter million wildebeest trek in columns of up to forty kilometres long in search of grazing, drawing with them their predators and numerous other species of game. From January to March the herds can largely be found in the southern area, proceeding north through the centre and Western Corridor during June and July before splitting to the west and north, continuing their way toward the Mara River. They return south in November to repeat this amazing instinctive procession all over again. It really is a rare privilege to immerse yourself in the unique natural phenomena of this Great Migration.

Day 6 to 8 Victoria Falls (2 nights)

Besides being one of the seven natural wonders of the world and a World Heritage Site, Victoria Falls is the unchallenged adventure capital of Africa with more than 50 activities available.

At 1708 metres wide, Victoria Falls is the most expansive curtain of water in the world and drops more than 100 metres into the sheer Zambezi Gorge. Straddling the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, these Falls and the Zambezi River are the central points in an area of spectacular scenic beauty: from the Falls themselves to the broad, picturesque course of the Zambezi River upstream, the rainforest adjacent and the stark jagged gorge downstream, the power and timelessness of nature's forces are evident throughout.

The Falls’ local name, Mosi-Oa-Tunya - "the Smoke that Thunders" - more accurately defines the essence of the place: the rising, shining spray that can be seen 30km away. This vapour has the effect of adding moisture in the form of humidity to the air in the "splash zone", so that a unique, small rainforest ecosystem clings to the edge of the Falls, providing a toehold for no less than 70 shrub and 150 herbaceous species, as well as trees such as pod and Natal mahogany, ebony, Cape and strangler fig and Transvaal red milkwood. There are two National Parks in the vicinity: the Zambezi National Park in Zimbabwe and the Mosi-oa-Tunya Zoological Park in Zambia, which means that herds of big game such as elephant and buffalo, as well as smaller species and even predators such as lion persist in the area.

Day 8 Victoria Falls to Cape Town

This morning is at leisure to catch a last glimpse of the Falls, until you are picked up from the hotel and are transferred to Victoria Falls town where you will board a direct flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival at Cape Town airport, you are met by our representative and are transferred to your hotel for a two night stay.

Transfer time – Hotel to Victoria Falls Airport – approx. 20 minutes

Flight time – Victoria Falls to Cape Town: approx 3½ hours

Transfer time – Cape Town Airport to Cape Town Hotels: approx 35 minutes

Day 8 to 10 Cape Town (2 nights)

Explore the Mother City and the Fairest Cape – from the oldest buildings in South Africa to trendy waterfront shopping; from majestic Table Mountain to sun drenched beaches; and from dramatic seascapes to verdant vineyards. Cape Town regularly tops many lists of world must-visit destinations and Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain has recently been voted one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Cosmopolitan and fashionable, the relaxed atmosphere and pavement café culture give Cape Town a Southern European feel – but with a distinctive African twist.

Day 10 Cape Town & Departure

This morning after breakfast you check out of your hotel and are transferred to Cape Town Airport for your international flight home.

Transfer time – Cape Town Hotels to Cape Town Airport: approx 35 minutes

Serengeti National Park: Legendary Serengeti Mobile Camp

Legendary Serengeti Camp is a mobile tented camp that moves its location throughout the year depending on where the great annual migration is expected to be. In November of each year the camp is relocated to the short grass plains of the southern Serengeti ecosystem where it remains until early May.

The site where the camp is pitched changes slightly each year but is chosen according to where the herds are congregating. The camp consists of luxury tents, each with en suite facilities and is sold on an exclusive basis for six or more guests and semi-exclusive basis for fewer guests and each party of guests are offered game viewing activities in a private safari vehicle.

Bedroom tents are available with king sized beds or can be converted into twin beds and if need be a triple. All beds are draped with mosquito netting and made up with pure cotton linen. All bedroom tents have private en suite bathrooms with flush toilets. Bucket style showers that are filled with warm water every morning, evening or when requested add to the camping element of each guests state. Each tent has a verandah area with lounge furniture where you can enjoy your morning coffee or tea provided with your wake up call. Electricity is available by generator and inverter, the guest tents have lights and there is a charging station in the lounge. Separate communal lounge and dining area with outdoor camp fire.

The private dining tent has a fully stocked bar and lantern lit in the evening with campfire out front. Breakfast is a combination of buffet style cereals and fruits as well as a cooked choice from the kitchen. Both lunch and dinner are hearty three course menus

Included in price Daily Safari Programme in the Serengeti National Park

It really is a rare privilege to immerse yourself in the unique natural phenomena of this Great Migration. Huge herds of wildebeest and zebra can be found here along with smaller concentrations of Thomson’s gazelle, Grant’s gazelle, impala, kongoni, Kirk’s dik dik, klipspringer and small numbers of roan, oryx, oribi, eland and waterbuck.

There are also significant numbers of buffalo, giraffe and warthog. Elephants are relatively scarce on the open plains, and more common in the northern areas and the western corridor. The few remaining black rhinos are restricted to a small part of the park and are not often spotted. But the most popular animals to be found here in greater abundance than elsewhere on the northern circuit are the cats. Lions, cheetahs and leopard may all be seen here along with other predators, such as the spotted hyena, golden and black-backed jackals, wild cats and servals.

Suggested Victoria Falls: View the Falls

As you approach the Falls and hear the water pounding and witness the vapour rising, you quickly understand why local tribesman called the Falls “Mosi-oa-Tunya” (the smoke that thunders) and why the explorer David Livingstone exclaimed that a scene “so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”. The great columns of spray rising from the tumultuous falls can be seen from 80 kilometres away on a clear day. If you are lucky enough to be there at full moon, a "moonbow" can be seen in the spray instead of the usual daylight rainbow. Because the Victoria Falls fall into a chasm, rather than falling down an escarpment, it is possible to walk along the opposite side of the chasm, at the same height as the top of the Falls. From the unique walking trails the magnificence and glory of the Falls are head on and only about 60 metres (200 feet) away. The spray falls on the trails like soft rain, feeding the lush vegetation.

Included in price Victoria Falls: Sunset Boat Trip on the Zambezi River

Follow in the footsteps of David Livingstone and travel up the Zambezi River above the Falls. There are several companies offering boat trips on the Zambezi River. Especially recommended is an evening sundowner boat cruise or a dinner cruise. As afternoon fades into twilight, animals come down to the river to drink as you go by.

Suggested Victoria Falls: Adventure Activities

Victoria Falls is the unchallenged adventure capital of Africa with more than 50 activities available. Here is our selection of the best:

Tiger fishing:
Spend a half day on the Zambezi River fishing for one of the great freshwater game fish - The Tigerfish. These powerful, swift predators are truly thrilling to catch.

Canoeing:
Paddle slowly down the Zambezi River in a canoe with some of the best wildlife guides in Africa and enjoy the beauty, peace and wildlife of this unique place. Explore islands and waterways and learn about the birds and animals you come across along the route.

Flight of Angels Helicopter Flip over the Falls:
At ground level you can feel the enormous power of the Victoria Falls as tremendous volumes of water pound into the chasm below. But it is only when you take to the air that you can take in the whole panorama and enormity of this mighty spectacle.

Bungi Jumping:
Bungi jump off the 111 metre high railway bridge into the Zambezi gorge, stopping just metres from the rushing water of the Zambezi River. This is a wild jump! There are two bungi options: A single jump on your own or a tandem jump with a partner.

White Water Rafting:
White Water Rafting on the Zambezi River is acclaimed as the best one day white water rafting trip available in the world. There are different options for rafting depending on the time of year and the level of water in the river.

Jet Boat Extreme:
Speedboats powered by huge jet engines shoot down the rapids below the Victoria Falls at 100 km an hour. Enjoy a thrilling half hour spent “flying” over the water.

Included in price Cape Town: Full Day Cape Point Tour

You are collected from your hotel by a tour guide and taken on a drive along the Atlantic seaboard via glamorous Clifton to the quaint seaside village of Hout Bay. We continue via the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Point. Looking at this dramatic promontory jutting into the sea gives one an idea why early sailors nicknamed it the Cape of Storms. We then follow the coastline northwards via Simonstown, where you can visit the penguin colony of Boulders Beach. We also visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, which is dedicated to the extraordinary variety of plants found in the Cape Floral Kingdom. A leisurely drive through the leafy southern suburbs will bring us back to the city bowl in the late afternoon.
