Client Review

I cannot say more about the professionalism, the responsiveness, and the vacation planning abilities of Anya! Our family of 8 reached out to her to plan our trip to Cape Town and with VERY little direction from us beyond our desire to see as much as possible in 8 days, Anya anticipated our needs and executed a perfect itinerary that made everyone from the youngest (5) to the oldest (40 something!).

It was so easy and such a treat to just relax and enjoy vacation. The apartments were beautiful and well situated for city exploration (side note, we both had washer and dryers). Spier was a great way to end our trip, it was beautiful and the food was incredible. We cannot thank you enough for all you did to make this a fabulous, stress-free trip!

I would recommend Pembury to anyone looking for a full-service travel planning agency that provides for all the big (and little) things one may need on vacation. We literally worried about nothing and just enjoyed the ride!

Tour Consultant's Overview

I received Jamie's first email in April 2017, she was referred to me by close family friend who had worked with her in New York. They had discussed activities in Cape Town and where they should stay while in Cape Town. Jamie and her family had booked a few nights at Madikwe Safari Lodge directly and wanted to visit Cape Town after the safari in Madikwe but as it was their first time in Southern Africa, they had no idea what to do or where to stay. The family group included Jamie, her husband and their two sons as well as Jamie's sister in law, her husband and their two sons. In total a family of 8.   Jamie let me know they would prefer having the flexibility of a rental car in Cape Town and exploring the surrounding area on their own due to the ages of the children, they felt this would suit them better. With some additional information on the families’ interests and preferences, I put together a 8 Day itinerary for them which included a few nights stay at a self-catering apartment along the V&A Waterfront and two nights in the Cape Winelands at the Spier Hotel and Wine Farm. I suggested this itinerary as the self-catering apartment would give the family the space and "homely" feel while in Cape Town without comprising the location of the accommodation. The Waterfront Apartment is in the perfect location for exploring the V&A Waterfront, within walking distance from restaurants and a short drive from the major attractions in Cape Town.   After the stay in Cape Town, they took a slow drive through the Cape Winelands for the perfect way to end their tour in Southern Africa. Approximately an hour away from the city, the Cape Winelands would provide a relaxing and quite end to the holiday.   I chose Spier Hotel and Wine Farm as this hotel and wine farm not only caters for adults but for the kids as well. While the parents enjoyed wine tasting, the kids could join in on the fun with various grape juice tastings. After reviewing the proposed itinerary, Jamie and the rest of the family were very happy with the proposal and the tour was booked!   I provided the family with directions, extra information and a detailed itinerary (even for the kids) upon their arrival in Cape Town. The trip was a success and the family had a great time exploring the Mother City and the Cape Winelands.

Day 1 to 6 Cape Town ( 5 nights)

Welcome to Cape Town, Mother City of Africa, and the Western Cape, an area which is regarded as one of the most beautiful regions in the world. The City is a rare cultural gem, resulting from the amalgamation of Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers, the local Bushman and Hottentot tribes and the Bantu tribes from the north.

The impressive presence of Table Mountain, flanked by the legendary Devil's Peak and historical Signal Hill, stands proudly above the city. Beautiful white sandy beaches along a peaceful coastline frame the Cape Peninsula, which is famed for its unique floral kingdom, bountiful rivers, vleis and dams and magnificent countryside. The surrounding area extends far into the winelands, green in summer and red-gold in autumn.

The Mother City boasts a multitude of entertainment, ranging from outdoor activities and adventures in the sun to a roaring night life under neon signs. The vast range of shopping opportunities includes haggling with shop holders at Greenmarket Square Flea Market, as well as breezing through sophisticated and stylish shopping malls. The huge variety of restaurants reflects the multicultural history of the Cape and caters for everyone's taste, from fast-food outlets and casual to the chic to the very elegant.

The city provides a setting for many scenic wonders, magnificent seascapes and panoramic vistas. The beautiful coastal areas of Camps Bay, Clifton, Llandudno, Bantry Bay, Hout Bay and Blouberg surround the breath-taking tranquillity of the winelands, Constantia, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek.

Day 6 Cape Town to Cape Winelands

You depart Cape Town and drive to the Cape Winelands, with its backdrop of majestic mountain ranges, lush valleys and verdant vineyards.

Spend the day exploring the various Wine Routes, before checking in at your hotel near Stellenbosch for your 2 night stay.

Days 6 to 8 Cape Winelands ( 2 nights)

South African wine has a proud history dating back to 1659, when the first wine recorded in South Africa was produced by the founder of the Cape, Jan van Riebeeck. French Huguenots settled in the Franschhoek Valley in the late seventeenth century, seeking refuge from religious persecution in Europe and bringing with them precious root-stock to establish the wine-growing industry in South Africa. By the time of Napoleon, wine produced by Constantia, a vineyard near Cape Town, was considered by Europeans to be one of the greatest wines in the world. Anti-apartheid sanctions hit the wine industry hard, but since independence in 1994, access to international markets has unleashed a burst of new energy and new investment, and South African wines are once again winning awards across the world.

Each wine route has a wide range of wine estates and wineries: ranging from historical to avant garde and from garagiste to large scale producers. Many of the wine estates offer informative guided wine-tastings to the public as well as cellar tours or tours of the vineyards. Some of them also make cheese, chocolate and olive oil and offer tastings of these products alongside their wines. Many of them have on-site restaurants offering food that ranges from gastronomical delights to picnic hampers to enjoy under the oak trees.

You could also visit the Waterfront’s Two Oceans Aquarium, which is highly recommended for the insight it gives into life in the two oceans off the southern tip of Africa – the cold Atlantic Ocean and the warm Indian Ocean. The V&A Waterfront is South Africa’s trendiest shopping precinct and is full of great restaurants and bars.

You drive along the Atlantic seaboard via glamorous Clifton to the quaint seaside village of Hout Bay, from where you can catch a boat ride to Seal Island. You continue via the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Point. Looking at this dramatic promontory jutting into the sea gives one an idea why early sailors nicknamed it the Cape of Storms. You then follow the coastline northwards via Simonstown, where you can visit the penguin colony of Boulders Beach. You can also visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, which is dedicated to the extraordinary variety of plants found in the Cape Floral Kingdom. A leisurely drive through the leafy southern suburbs will bring you back to the Waterfront in the late afternoon.

Table Mountain Cable Car

Weather-permitting, you can ride the cable car up Table Mountain to enjoy the view over Cape Town and across Table Bay to Robben Island. South Africa's most famous landmark, Table Mountain, is more than just a pile of rock in the bay. A protected national park, it has some remarkable features that make it a great destination for nature-lovers, deserving of more than just a quick cable car ride to see the view from the top.
