Day 1-8 :
Mauritius

The tropical island of Mauritius is situated 2,000 kilometres off the south east coast of the African continent. Mauritius is surrounded by more than 150 kilometres of palm-fringed sugar-white sandy beaches and the lagoons are protected from the open sea by the world’s third largest coral reef, which surrounds the island.
Where the ocean waves break upon the outer edges of the reef, a translucent almost pencil-thin white line divides the deep blue of the Indian Ocean from the iridescent green of the lagoon. Just off the coast of Mauritius lie some 49 uninhabited islands and islets, some of which are nature reserves for the protection of endangered species. Mauritius is a real paradise for those who want to enjoy the sea or just to soak up the sun. The beaches are endless and the Mauritian sea never fails to enchant: multi-coloured fish, such as the clown, box and trumpet fish, weave through the coral gardens and moray eels lie in wait in coral caves, while busy crustaceans clean the ocean floor and game fish such as barracuda, marlin and sailfish race through the open seas. There are many ways you can enjoy the wonderful marine life: diving, snorkelling, on a glass-bottomed boat, on a sight-seeing submarine, or on a sailing vessel.
The people of Mauritius are friendly and welcoming, and are a unique multi-cultural blend: French, British, Asian, African and Creole. This delightful mix is reflected in the local cuisine and music. The coast of Mauritius is lined with beautiful hotels and resorts, many of which specialise in honeymoons or family holidays.

This morning after breakfast you check out of your resort. You bid this beautiful island farewell as you are met and transferred to the airport where you will board your flight home.

Mauritius: Beachcomber Shandrani Hotel & Spa

Located in the unspoilt south region of Mauritius, Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa is a welcoming five-star resort with a lively vibe. Set on a private peninsula lapped by the Blue Bay Marine Park rich in sea life, Shandrani Beachcomber has three different beaches to discover. A short boat ride inshore takes you to the famous Ile aux Aigrettes nature reserve.

When it comes to sports and leisure, the resort has something for everyone. A range of land and water sports is at hand including water-skiing and golf (the hotel features a 9-hole Par 29, “pitch & putt” golf course).

A sailing school and a diving centre affiliated to PADI will delight all sports enthusiasts.
Other facilities include a spa and a wellness centre.
Four restaurants invite you to sample sumptuous dishes served with a choice of fine wines.
At Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa, enjoy relaxing holidays in peaceful surroundings

SUGGESTED Mauritius: Cultural Activities

L’Aventure du Sucre – Travel back in time and visit this fully restored sugarcane factory. Explore the intriguing world of sugar production and how central it is to the island’s culture.

Casela Bird Park – No trip to an exotic island would be complete without marveling at its bird life. More than
2 500 birds, of 140 species, inhabit the Casela Bird Park. Among the specimens from five continents, the Mauritian pink pigeon is one of the rarest birds in the world. Choose a quad or a Segway to travel around the park on a guided excursion.

Pamplemousses Gardens – A colossal collection of indigenous and exotic plants, particularly the talipot palm, which blooms once in its 60-year lifetime – the Pamplemousses Gardens are a must.

Port Louis – Port Louis is the bustling capital of Mauritius, bursting with a colourful history and a soulful character. Port Louis reflects the cosmopolitan population that is Mauritius, with fantastic markets that exude the aroma of exotic spices and offer all sorts of treasures. For more high-end and designer finds, visit the Caudan Waterfront.

Escale Creole – Experience the very best of Mauritian hospitality at this table d’hôte, and taste the lively and vibrant flavours of genuine, homemade Creole cuisine.

SUGGESTED Mauritius: Adventure Activities

If you can tear yourself away from the beach to explore the island of Mauritius, you’re in for the adventure of a lifetime. Connect to the raw wonders of nature and discover secrets in deep ravines and towering volcanic peaks.

Join a tour at Eau Bleue Waterfalls for abseiling, mountain bike riding and kayaking. Hop on a ‘big cat’ for a day-cruise to the islands off the north of Mauritius, east to Ile aux Cerfs or west from Rivière Noire to Ile aux Bénitiers.

Indulge your spirit of adventure with quad biking expeditions in the lush hilltop greenery of Valriche to the south-west. True to Beachcomber style, smart two-seater quad bikes are perfect for an adrenaline-filled ride through the lush vegetation, over rivers and through streams at an exhilarating pace.

SUGGESTED Mauritius: Shopping

Since the country was declared a duty free destination, Mauritius has become one of the world’s most coveted shopping attractions. Luxury goods, designer clothing, cameras and electronics – shopping up a storm is much more fun at duty free prices! Some of the main shopping experiences are:

The Grand Bazaar in Grand Bay: Choose from row upon row of casual and formal clothing, beautiful linen, crafts and much more, at smile-worthy prices.

Floreal Square houses a Textile Museum and a café. Twelve factory and duty free shops will ensure you’re spoilt for choice of adult and children’s wear, homeware, silk, jewellery, handmade carpets and fine food.

The Mauritius Glass Gallery in Pont Fer Phoenix: So much more than a shopping hub, here you can watch as skilled craftsmen bring recycled glass back to life using traditional techniques.

Caudan Waterfront: A modern precinct known for its designer shops and duty free jewellery but also for its cosmopolitan craft market, covering two floors of spices, souvenirs, basketry and craftsmen at work.

Bruce, South Africa, 4th September 2017

In March we contacted Heidi Bedford about a holiday trip.  We were not entirely sure of what we were wanting to do but we knew that it needed to be on a beach and as relaxing as possible.   Heidi came back with information about the weather conditions and suggestions at various beach destinations, we decided on Mauritius.  Our stay at Shandrani was exactly the comfort and relaxation we were after.   From the moment you arrive in Mauritius you know you are on holiday.  The staff at Shandrani couldn’t do enough for us, we decided on a Fully inclusive option and would highly recommend this kind of package as drinks can be quite pricey in Mauritius and the comfort of knowing our holiday was paid for in full before arriving added to the relaxation factor of this tremendous luxury beach holiday.   I would highly recommend Heidi and Pembury Tours for any travel arrangements as well as Shandrani or any of the Beachcomber properties
