Client Review

Anya Visser is the BEST! She made our trip amazing and special. During my entire life I never need a tour company. But, I tried to DIY my safari and found it impossible due to the complexity. Surfing the web I found Pembury Tours. And, I started a "conversation" with Anya about what we wanted. She made a proposal. We requested a few changes.

Anya listened, and considered what we wanted, and made a second proposal. On paper it looked great. Then, once the safari started (we went to three lodges) Anya’s plan exceeded all my expectations. Drivers were where they were should have been. The lodges were great. All the logistics went off flawlessly. We had absolutely nothing to worry about but having fun.  Stop reading and book with Pembury! They were fantastic in every way!

Eric & Tory S

Tour Consultant's Overview

Eric & Tory contacted me in early January 2017 with a view of organizing a walking safari in the Kruger National Park. Eric mentioned they were interested in adventure and bush walks in the Kruger National Park. They provided me with preferred travel dates and with this at hand, I put together a proposed Itinerary and Quote for Eric & Tory. The Itinerary included a stay at Rhino Post Safari Lodge and Rhino Post Plains Camp. The Itinerary would combine a luxury lodge stay at Rhino Post Safari Lodge and a tented stay at Rhino Post Plains Camp. Besides the different lodge styles, they would also experience different activities at Rhino Post Safari Lodge and Rhino Post Plains Camp. At Rhino Post Safari Lodge, they could enjoy twice daily game drives within a private concession in the Kruger National Park. At Rhino Post Plains Camp, daily morning & evening bush walks are offered with a short game drive. After reviewing my Itinerary, Eric & Tory came back with many questions. They were interested in a additional two night stay in another luxury lodge, which I suggested Lukimbi Safari Lodge. Eric & Tory were interested in adding to their Kruger Safari with the additional nights at Lukimbi Safari Lodge and were ready to Book. All that was left for them to do was prepare for their Kruger Adventure!

Day 1 Arrival in Southern Kruger National Park

This morning you depart Cape Town and begin your Safari in the Kruger National Park. On arrival at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, you will be met by your driver and transferred to your lodge in the Kruger National Park for your 2 night stay.

Upon arrival at your safari lodge, you have time to settle in before you depart on your first game drive in the Kruger National Park

Days 1 to 3 Southern Kruger National Park (2 nights)

The Kruger National Park was established in 1898 and is the oldest National Park in Africa. The 2-million hectare Park provides sanctuary to 147 mammal species, including the Big Five, as well as over 500 bird species. The Kruger National Park has more than its fair share of the Big Five, with an estimated 1,500 lion, 12,000 elephant, 2,500 buffalo, 1,000 leopards and 4,000 rhino. Cheetah, wild dog, spotted hyena, hippopotamus, giraffe, zebra, warthog and many antelope species are also regularly seen on game drives. Boundary fences have been dropped between Kruger and its neighbouring private game reserves, such as Sabi Sand, Timbavati, Klaserie and Manyaleti, meaning that the animals are free-roaming over an area the size of Switzerland, resulting in an immense gene pool. Kruger is unrivalled in the diversity of its life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies.

Day 3 Kruger National Park - Southern to Central

This morning is at leisure, you enjoy a last morning game drive and brunch. You will be met by your driver and transferred to the central area of the Kruger National Park and onto your accommodation within a private concession of the Park.

Upon arrival at Rhino Post Safari Lodge, you will be met and served a refreshing drink, a brief introduction and taken to your room. After settling into your suite, you will come down to the lounge overlooking the water hole and enjoy scrumptious high tea before departing for your afternoon / evening game drive.

Days 3 to 6 Central Kruger National Park (3 nights)

The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience second to none. At nearly two million hectares, it is the largest game reserve in South Africa, stretching 350km along the Mozambican border and is, on average, 60km wide. It is unrivalled in its diversity of species and is a recognised leader in environmental management techniques and policies.

The park is home to an impressive number of species, has an amazing 16 different ecosystems, and ranks as a prime Big Five game viewing area.

Nothing is predictable in the bush therefore each safari offers a potentially new experience.

Day 6 Central Kruger National Park and Departure

Kruger National Park: Lukimbi Safari Lodge

Lukimbi Safari Lodge is a luxury safari lodge situated on a private concession in the southern portion of the Kruger National Park. The lodge features carved plaster panels showing intricate mystical creatures and African patterns, in a subtle yet extremely decorative way. The main buildings are linked together with open wooden decks, making the most of the view, as the lodge meanders along the banks of the river Lwakahle. The designer interior combines colours and specially created pieces artistically and imaginatively. The height of the lodge above the river provides viewing points with a feeling of safety. Meals are served at a variety of venues, so guests may enjoy breakfast in the bush, lunch round the pool and dinner on the candlelit wooden decks or around the campfire in the boma.

The raised walkways provide guests with easy access to their suites. 16 spacious suites combine luxury and modern African decor with private decks and river views. The suites all have a sense of space. The rooms seems to stretch into the bush beyond, and the high windows bring the sky and the trees right into the room. Each suite has an en-suite bathroom with spacious bath, inside and outside shower and separate toilet. All have air-conditioning, fan, safe, gauzy, romantic mosquito nets, tea and coffee facilities and a mini bar. These rooms are large enough to share with young children and still enjoy the space.

The unique Kruger National Park and the world-renowned private game reserves that border it together make the Greater Kruger area one of the largest wildlife conservancies in the world. The 2-million hectare Park provides sanctuary to 147 mammal species, including the Big Five, as well as over 500 bird species, all of which roam freely in their natural habitat. Game drives with informative Rangers, are done in the early mornings and late afternoons/evenings on private roads in open Landrovers. Alternatively, guests can take guided walks or relax in the magnificent lodge.

Kruger National Park: Rhino Post Safari Lodge

Rhino Post Safari Lodge is situated at the southern end of the 12,000 hectare private wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park (Rhino Walking Safaris, Plains Camp is in the northern section of the concession). The concession shares a 15km unfenced boundary with the famous Mala Mala and Sabi Sand reserve with an abundance of wildlife moving freely between the two reserves. The concession is noted as an excellent game viewing area with encounters with the Big Five and good sightings can be expected.

The lodge is set under magnificent Tamboti trees and is built with natural materials – stone, wood, thatch and canvas - to give it an authentic bush feel. Stilts raise the 8 spaciously appointed suites from the riverbank allowing guests to view the Mutlumuvi riverbed with ease from the bedroom, bathroom and private wooden deck. The suites are set out in an open plan style with wooden floors, thatched roofs, canvas walls and an overhead fan. In the heat of summer, cool off in the swimming pool and watch the wildlife amble down to the waterhole for a midday drink. At sundown, enjoy a cocktail in the comfort of the lounge with its extensive wine cellar, cosy fireplace and bar.

Kruger National Park: Rhino Post Walking Safari - Plains Camp

Plains Camp is situated in the heart of a 12,000 hectare concession. With a maximum of eight people only (no children under 12), guests are ensured of a quality, pristine wilderness experience.

Plains Camp has four luxury African explorer-style tents with en-suite (hot running water) and all the comforts of home, plus the African Wilderness on your doorstep. Built in authentic pioneer tradition it has the serenity of a 19th century naturalists retreat, nestled in an Acacia Knobthorn thicket and overlooking the spectacular Timbitene plain and waterhole. An Africana book collection and antique treasures are reminiscent of a golden era.

A generator and a back-up battery system power overhead fans and 24 hour lighting. The generator system can be used to re-charge camera batteries at specific times. There is also a Communal Lounge and Dining Area with an outside fireplace.

Included in price Kruger National Park: Daily Safari Programme at Lukimbi Safari Lodge

Lukimbi Safari Lodge is situated in the game rich, southern section of the world renowned Kruger National Park. Bounded by 3 major river systems, the extensive 15 000 hectare area offers a diverse array of habitats. Vast grasslands dominate the northern portion, whereas the southern and central areas are more heavily wooded and interspersed with lush riverine thickets.

This provides ideal habitat for large herds of zebra, wildebeest and other plains animals. White rhino enjoy the numerous pans and wallows, whilst the shyer and more elusive black rhino can be found in the more thickly wooded areas. Herds of buffalo roam through grasslands seeking the succulent grasses, before moving down to rivers to amble slowly through the reeds. Elephants can frequently be seen all over the concession and in the river in front of the lodge is a favourite place for them to spend hours at a time. Guests relaxing at the lodge pools can find themselves enthralled, watching elephant families equally enjoying their own pools, particularly if the families include endearing babies.

Where you find animals, you find the predators. Tracking lions in open vehicles is one of the most exciting things to do and guests will never forget the spine chilling and awesome sound of a lion roaring at close quarters. Leopards are also found at Lukimbi, more difficult to spot, but guests are rewarded with the sight of one of the most beautiful animals in the world. Twice-daily game drives are conducted in open vehicles, led by an experience field guide and local Shangaan tracker.

During daily walks, field guides will fascinate guests with information on the smaller reptiles and insects, which they might have missed on drives. Inquisitive giraffe frequently amuse guests on walks, as they watch the guests watching them, their long, luxuriant eyelashes never failing to charm. Lukimbi is a birders’ paradise, as there are over 420 species of birds to be found.

Included in price Kruger National Park: Daily Safari Programme at Rhino Post Safari Lodge

Rhino Post Safari Lodge lies within a private wilderness concession just north of Skukuza in the Kruger National Park, offering exclusive game drive safaris.

Rhino Post Safari Lodge offers both early morning and evening games drives. Game drive safaris are conducted in specially adapted open Landcruisers, with professional guides. To preserve their wilderness concession, no off-roading is practiced. In addition to driving on their 12,000 hectare concession, they have exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park public roads at night. SANparks has allowed them the added advantage of being able to utilise 170km of Park roads after gate closing time - when all the self-drive tourists have left and when the other concessions have to be back on their own property.

Upon arrival at your safari lodge you are given a welcome drink and your safari experience will be explained to you by your lodge host. There will be time to settle in before afternoon High Tea followed by your first game drive. Game drives take place in the early morning and evening to ensure game viewing when animals are most active. You return to your lodge in time for a sumptuous safari cuisine dinner. The next day after a light snack you are taken on a morning game drive. You return to the lodge for a grand brunch. There is time to relax around the sunny pool, do some bird-watching from the observation deck or read a book in the peace of your room’s private verandah. After High Tea you set off on another evening game drive, returning again in time for dinner.

Included in price Kruger National Park: Daily Safari Programme: Rhino Walking Safaris - Plains Camp

After settling into your tent and exploring the camp, high tea is served followed by a brief on the ‘do’s & don’t’s’ of bush walking safaris by your guide. (Rhino Walking Safari guides meet the stringent requirements of the South African National Parks and senior guides hold the highest guiding qualification possible in South Africa)

After the brief, you will depart with your 2 armed rangers for an introductory walk, returning to the vehicle in time for sun downers and again enjoying a short night drive when returning to camp. The concession is an environmentally sensitive area previously unexplored, with huge diversity of both fauna and flora – an ideal setting for wilderness walking safaris in an internationally renowned big five area.

A typical day at Plains Camp begins with a mug of steaming coffee and traditional homemade rusks, after which guests set out on their morning walk, following rhino tracks and elephant paths. The length of the walks depend on the interest and fitness of the guests. Returning to camp, enjoy a leisurely brunch and relax in the cool of the acacia trees, keeping an eye on the waterhole for the breeding herd of elephant that frequently come to drink. Following high tea, set out again in the late afternoon for a walking safari or game drive and then indulge in a sunset cocktail.
