Itinerary
Upon arrival in Cape Town, you are met by our driver and transferred by road to your hotel at the V&A Waterfront for your four night stay. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the Waterfront shops and attractions.
Transfer time: Cape Town International Airport to hotel: approx. 35 minutes
Welcome to Cape Town, Mother City of Africa, and the Western Cape, an area which is regarded as one of the most beautiful regions in the world. The City is a rare cultural gem, resulting from the amalgamation of Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers, the local Bushman and Hottentot tribes and the Bantu tribes from the north.
The impressive presence of Table Mountain, flanked by the legendary Devil’s Peak and historical Signal Hill, stands proudly above the city. Beautiful white sandy beaches along a peaceful coastline frame the Cape Peninsula, which is famed for its unique floral kingdom, bountiful rivers, vleis and dams and magnificent countryside. The surrounding area extends far into the winelands, green in summer and red-gold in autumn.
This morning after breakfast, you are transferred to Cape Town Airport for your flight to Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape Safari Country. Upon arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport, you are met and transferred by road to your game lodge about an hour inland from the city for your three night stay.
Upon arrival at Lalibela Game Reserve you are transferred from reception to your lodge, where you are given a welcome drink and your safari experience will be explained to you by your lodge host. There will be time to settle in before lunch followed by your first game drive.

Today, we bid you farewell. You enjoy your last game drive at Kariega Game Reserve before you are transferred to reception, where you will be met and transferred by road back to Port Elizabeth for your flight to either Cape Town or Johannesburg.

Mark’s Camp is a family-friendly lodge – it has 8 stone & thatch chalets, decorated in a relaxed Pan-African style, and it can accommodate up to 18 adults and 8 children. Each comfortably furnished chalet has an en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning and ceiling-fans for those warm summer nights. All of the chalets open up onto your own private viewing deck.
There are 3 room types at Mark’s Camp: 4 Standard chalets that sleep 2 adults; 3 Family chalets that sleep 2 adults and 2 children under 12; 1 Family suite that has 2 en-suite rooms as well as a lounge area – the suite can sleep up to 6 guests One of the appealing features of Mark’s Camp is the abundance of birdlife which can be viewed from the rooms, pool deck (Mark’s Camp has two swimming pools) or central lounge area.
Blessed with a large waterhole in front of the lodge, it is not uncommon for guests to see antelope, giraffe, elephant and predators coming to the waterhole! Mark’s Camp has an outdoor dining “boma” for fireside dinners and open-air brunches, as well as a gracious indoor dining area.

You are taken on a drive along the Atlantic seaboard via glamorous Clifton to the quaint seaside village of Hout Bay. We continue via the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive to Cape Point. Looking at this dramatic promontory jutting into the sea gives one an idea why early sailors nicknamed it the Cape of Storms. We then follow the coastline northwards via Simonstown, where you will visit the penguin colony of Boulders Beach. We also visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, which is dedicated to the extraordinary variety of plants found in the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Spend time today at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. You can take a ferry from the Waterfront across Table Bay to Robben Island. An ex-prisoner takes you on an extensive tour of the prison, which includes a visit to Nelson Mandela’s cell, the limestone quarry and the old leper colony. You could also visit the Waterfront’s Two Oceans Aquarium, which is highly recommended for the insight it gives into life in the two oceans off the southern tip of Africa – the cold Atlantic Ocean and the warm Indian Ocean. The V&A Waterfront is South Africa’s trendiest shopping precinct and is full of great restaurants and bars.

Lalibela is home to the Big 5. There are no public roads running through the game reserve and all of the animals, including the predators, are free-roaming throughout the reserve. Game drives in an open vehicle with an experienced game ranger bring you face to face with a multitude of game species, ranging from mighty elephant, lion, rhino and buffalo to tiny blue duiker and rock hyrax. Lalibela is also home to cheetah, hyena, hippo, giraffe, zebra, warthog and numerous species of antelope, such as eland, kudu, bushbuck and wildebeest. On thrilling night drives under the vast African sky, you search for elusive bat-eared fox, aardvark, black-backed jackal, aardwolf and the curious spring hare.
Upon arrival at Lalibela Game Reserve you are transferred from reception to your lodge, where you are given a welcome drink and your safari experience will be explained to you by your lodge host. There will be time to settle in before afternoon High Tea followed by your first game drive. Game drives take place in the early morning and evening to ensure game viewing when animals are most active. Night game drives provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the predators. You return to your lodge in time for a sumptuous safari cuisine dinner.
The next day after a light snack you are taken on a morning game drive. You return to the lodge for a grand brunch. Then there is time to relax around the sunny pool, do some bird-watching from the observation deck or read a book in the peace of your room’s private verandah. After High Tea you set off on another evening game drive, returning again in time for dinner. On your day of departure, you will do a morning game drive and will leave the lodge after brunch.
